RESIDENT SERVICE PROGRAM

United Housing Property ManagementUnited Housing has a comprehensive Resident Services Program whose primary mission is to engage its residents in programs that enrich their lives, while addressing issues related to their social and economic needs.  United Housing’s Resident Services Program includes services for children, youth, adults, families, seniors and the disabled population.  All services and programs are offered in our Neighborhood Network Center, on 59 Elm Hill Avenue, Dorchester, MA. (Entrance Center on Ruthven Street).  The Neighborhood Network is a tax exempt charitable organization (Section 501 (c) (3)) that provides an array of services for our residents and community at large.  In July 2011, the Neighborhood Network Center will relocate to 402 Blue Hill Avenue.

United Housing’s Resident Services Program - Primary Objectives

• Develop a comprehensive array of programs and services that address the present and future needs of resident population.

• Address “aging in place” issues of increasing frailties and the associated physical, emotional and social consequence for residents.

• Assist families in overcoming the barriers to self-sufficiency through linkages with community resources related to education, financial planning, childcare and healthcare.

• Target activities that enhance the living environment, increase socialization and interaction among residents and promote independence and self-sufficiency.

• Ensure residents are meaningfully involved in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of programs and services intended for their benefit.

Services and programs that are provided at the Neighborhood Network Center

Children from zero to five years

Provide information, referral, and resources for parents in need of daycare and
other early childhood programs.

Children from six to thirteen years

Information on charter schools, after-school, educational enrichment programs, health care and health insurance information. We provide one on one tutoring, homework support educational enrichment programs in art, music, public speaking and creative expression.

Youth from fourteen to eighteen years

United Housing Property ManagementThe youth will have the opportunity to participate in a tutorial program. United Housing’s collaboration with the Boston Learning Center; Certified teachers from the Boston Public School System will provide private and small group tutoring to the youth/student in Reading, English, Grammar, Basic Math and Algebra. Support for college-bound students in entrance exams, and applying for scholarships, attending the historical southern black college tour, job training programs and summer job opportunities with Mayor’s Summer Program, ABCD Summer Employment and other public and private agencies providing employment for youth.

Parent Support Services

Offer support by providing information and making referrals for childcare services, parenting classes, parenting support group, advocacy and alternative education assistance programs. Provide support in resume writing, interview skills, and online employment search. Time Management and Financial Literacy classes are offered to families and individuals. We also have a curriculum to assist with GED preparation and introduction to Microsoft Word and Excel.

Senior & Disabled Population

United Housing Property ManagementCollaborate with local health providers, hospitals and Elderly Commission on providing on-site services that address needs of the senior and disabled population by offering:

• Health and wellness workshops (diabetes, nutrition, stroke, vision, dentistry and foot care).
• Provide home visits, information, referrals and advocacy as
needed.
• Develop a senior hour weekly to meet one day per week to discuss issues surrounding healthcare, social security, and safety issues.

The Neighborhood Network Center hours of operations:
Monday to Friday
3pm – 6pm
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
12pm – 3pm (Adult learning Program hours)
